According to a tweet from Radio5:
"We've explicitly said it was not EDL. We saw no evidence of that. Police wanted to stress group was not EDL, too."
Alex Thompson still adamant that EDL slogans were chanted.

Of course, the EDL being more of a concept than an organisation as such, it's not clear what qualifies as an EDL 'group' an the street.
